15 Minute Live Performances: Erin Rae

Erin Rae is one of our favorite artists to emerge in the past year. The singer-songwriter is one of Nashville’s finest rising talents. Her breakthrough album, Lighten Up, produced by Jonathan Wilson, is shaping the latest generation of cosmic country. Earlier this year, we spoke with the 31-year-old and she explained to us how everything came together, from a creative and mental wellness place. “I think I have realized in the last couple of years, I was born with a certain set of anxious tendencies. Kind of an overactive, maybe hypervigilant mind. But then I also got to learn that I can sing, and that has always provided a soothing antidote to my brain.” In her 15 Minute Live Performance, she showcases her earnest songwriting and her outstanding ability to connect through live performance....

Blxst Champions His City as a West Coast Pioneer

“I ain’t heard one bad Blxst song” is more than just a lyric. For the South Central LA rapper’s devoted fans, it’s a proclamation of his unmatched craft. Known for his melodic take on hip-hop and R&B, Blxst initially became a household name with his debut project No Love Lost in 2020. Since then, a few more accolades under his belt include landing a spot on XXL’s Freshman 2021 list, climbing the top of global viral charts, and bringing home gold-certified hits such as “Chosen” featuring Ty Dolla $ign and Tyga. Wearing a certain West Coast pride on his sleeve, the rapper-crooner carried the torch by working closely with other LA vanguards like Snoop Dogg, YG, Mozzy, Dom Kennedy, Bino Rideaux, Zacari and many more. Just like staying true to his city, the multi-hyphenate has also remained...

Jim Jones “Aunt Viola,” Onyx “Shoot Wit” & More | Daily Visuals 6.16.22

HipHopWired Featured Video If nothing else Jim Jones has shown and proved that he’s all about family and loyalty and when he’s not demonstrating those attributes with his Dip Set brethren, he’s doing so with close friends and loved ones. Such is the case for his visuals to “Aunt Viola” in which Capo gets dipped in all-white attire along with close friends and relatives as they pay respects to aunt Viola (least we think it’s her based off the title) at her funeral before taking to the streets to drop his bars and pouring out some bubbly for the dearly departed. Not enough people pour out liquor for the homies these days. Just sayin.’ From Harlem to Queens, Onyx keeps Southside Jamaica Queens gritty and gully and in their clip to “Shoot Wit” Fredro Starr and Sticky Fingaz roll through the st...

Motley Crue Jams With MGK at Stadium Tour Kickoff in Atlanta

Motley Crue teamed with surprise guest Machine Gun Kelly last night (June 16) at Atlanta’s Truist Park Stadium for their first live performance of “The Dirt (Est. 1981),” the artists’ 2019 collaboration from the biopic The Dirt. MGK, whose real name is Colson Baker, portrayed Crue drummer Tommy Lee in the film. The show was the first in the oft-postponed Stadium tour, which also features Def Leppard, Joan Jett and Poison. Crue drummer Tommy Lee was forced to exit five songs into the performance due to having suffered four broken ribs two weeks earlier. “I wish I had a fuckin’ badass story like me and Conor McGregor fuckin’ scrapping out in some fuckin’ bar or something, but I don’t,” Crue told the crowd without elaborating on how exactly he was injured in the first place. Lee was replaced ...

The Reissue Section: The Clash’s Videographer Don Letts Looks Back at Combat Rock

The time has come to cut the crap and get your head right about Combat Rock. Why this album — the amalgamation of pretty much everything that made The Clash cool — does not get its proper due in the same way the first album and London Calling do is beyond comprehension. Originally mapped out as a double LP called Rat Patrol From Fort Bragg, the band’s label brought in producer Glyn Johns to whittle it down to a tight, taut 45-minute record that set the scene for their greatest commercial success. Combat was the biggest hit of their run, powered by two all-timers in “Rock The Casbah” and “Should I Stay Or Should I Go.” The 40th anniversary expanded edition adds a second disc and is likely the closest hardcore Clash fans will ever get to an official version of Rat Patrol. This People’s Hall ...

Chlöe Delivers Sultry New Track and Video “Surprise”

Chlöe —otherwise known as Chlöe Bailey and one-half of the sister duo Chloe x Halle — has dropped off her latest single, “Suprise,” alongside a Diana Kunst-directed music video. Building on a slower tempo, “Surprise” sees the chart-topper tease a love interest with sultry lyrics, setting expectations for their relationship and detailing what could become of it. The accompanying video supplements the track’s message with a slew of intimate scenes between Chlöe and a man, all of which are ultimately made up in the love interest’s mind. “If you be good to me then I’ma be great to you / If you stay down for me then I’ll stay awake for you,” she sings on the R&B-leaning song. “Surprise (Surprise), slip my panties to the side / Give me your money, baby, I’ll make it rain for you.” “Surprise”...
