If you thought the Grammys red carpet was something worth buzzing about, get ready because I have a feeling our favorite celebrities are about to outdo themselves yet again for tonight’s Screen Actor’s Guild Awards (AKA the SAGs). Much like the rest of this award season, the SAGs were delayed but the show must (literally) go on, so this year will feature a pre-taped special. If you’re anything like us, your first thought it how this will affect the celebrity looks. While there won’t be a traditional red carpet before tonight’s show, expect the leading (and supporting) stars of this year’s binge-worthy series and critically acclaimed movies to turn up virtually and bring their A-game à la the Golden Globes and Critics’ Choice...
Have you forgotten how to get dressed? I don’t mean chucking on the same knit and trackies you’ve been wearing for the past year. I mean like actually get dressed with purpose and consideration—a frock for drinks with mates at the pub, a cool pair of tailored trousers for a picnic in the park, a blazer for doing some Saturday shopping… There’s no doubt that while our love for fashion hasn’t waned, it’s been very centered on what we do inside our houses, so that means there’s been more of a focus on loose, comfortable and functional items. It’s not really been about getting dressed. Well, with spring coinciding with the easing of lockdown restrictions, it’s time to inject some fun into our outfits. Thankfully, there are plenty of joyful ...
The other day I told my husband that I might’ve forgotten how to put outfits together, which I probably shouldn’t admit, given my profession. While it’s an overstatement, the truth is that I probably am a little rusty after a year spent in sweats and slippers, but things are starting to look up for 2021, and I’m starting to think about what I’m going to wear now that the weather is getting nicer. Instagram is pretty much my #1 source for outfit trend spotting, and so to get myself out of this year-of-lockdown style rut, I chose 5 looks that chic women recently posted to their feeds, and re-created them with pieces I already own. I can’t say that I looked quite as cool as they did, but some of the outfits got me out...
If you love your shoulders/arms: If accentuating your arms and shoulders is your goal, opt for either strapless, off-the-shoulder, one-shoulder, or halter styles. Each of those silhouettes will draw all the attention to your upper body and really highlight one of your favourite features. If you love your legs: High cuts, either on bikini bottoms or one-pieces, immediately extend the length of your natural leg line. If you want to show off your stunning limbs, why cut off the line of your leg when you can extend it? This ’80s-style suit will do just that. If you love your waist: The best way to show off your waist, you ask? Belted swimwear is one of our must-try swimsuit trends generally speaking, but for those of you who love your mid-section, it’s...
The way we dress is always reflective of our surroundings, which explains the urge most of us have to wear florals in spring—we’re channelling the flowers blossoming around us into our outfits. Brands, be they high-end or high street, are all too happy to cater to this sartorial mirroring. Right now, in any and every new-in section, you’re sure to find a plethora of petal-adorned pieces just waiting to sell out. Still, regardless of how pretty the motif may be, the saying “too much of a good thing” exists for a reason. When you’ve already got a closet full of floral prints (we know we have), you’d be forgiven for wanting to spend your money on something different. Perhaps the springtime picnics we’re planning are serving as inspiration, but ri...
There’s nothing quite like the inexplicable satisfaction of a really good outfit. Sometimes it can be hard to put your finger on what it is exactly that makes something work: It could be a clever colour combination, an unexpected silhouette, or even a subtle trim on a pair of trousers. As a fashion editor, it is my job to keep an eye out for these winning ensembles. It’s a tough job, but someone’s gotta do it. We even have a channel on Slack that is literally dedicated to great outfits, and boy, are there plenty to choose from. This story is essentially a line-up of all the fabulous outfits that have been given the Slack-channel seal of approval. I find that the looks that stand out to me are often relatively simple in composition ...
There’s plenty of conflicting advice about how much SPF to apply, but it’s widely accepted that most of us just don’t slather on enough of it. Official National Health Service guidelines advise using two teaspoons of sunscreen for your head, arms and neck, or two tablespoons for your entire body. But in case you don’t want to treat your sun protection like you’re baking a cake, Colbert says you can use SPF “just like a moisturiser—enough to lightly cover the skin.” When it comes to applying SPF, you should do so about 30 minutes before you head outside. I apply it as the last step in my skincare routine before doing my hair and makeup. However, if it’s a summer’s day, you’re advised to reapply it just before you leave the hou...
For as long as I can remember, Sephora has been my happy place. But I haven’t always known what to do in there, to be honest. In my 20s, I was far more concerned with makeup than anything else and usually just bought basic skincare necessities at the drugstore. Obviously, in your 20s, time is on your side, and you don’t need to worry much about anti-aging and the like, but it’s the decade of prevention when it comes to your skin, and I wish I’d done a little more to not squander that time. Luckily, I was really good about doing the most important thing you can for your skin in your 20s: I wore sunscreen on my face, neck, and chest every day. (This one is my longtime favorite.) It’s so crucial. But I’ve realized, now that I’m in my mi...
I know it’s the outright cheesiest thing to say, but I really have always had a deep love for fashion since a very young age. Despite my humble reputation at school as “the quiet girl,” I finally figured out how to grow into my own identity and I did that via my clothing. I started wearing handmade flower crowns (I was in my wannabe Coachella phase), platform-heeled boots, and layers of chunky necklaces to my suburban high school with abandon. I found myself going through a real transformation, kind of like in The Princess Diaries when Mia gets her famous makeover, except I wasn’t becoming the princess of Genovia, I was just starting to wear loud clothes that my mum thought were weird. That period of experimentation that I went through is honestly what cha...
All in all, I have to say I seriously enjoyed switching my usual skincare routine for Rosie Huntington-Whiteley’s. Surprisingly, a lot of my skin concerns are the same as the supermodel’s (who knew?), so products like the warming cleanser and serum were perfect for my skin type. While I could skip things like the face mist and toner, a lot of these products will be making a permanent home in my bathroom. This post was originally published at an earlier time and has since been updated. Next up, the cult moisturisers that Meghan Markle, Rosie HW and VB actually use. We’re only three months into 2021, so really it’s no surprise that we haven’t seen many dress trends surface quite yet, but with waves of warmer weather coming in fits and starts, it seems as though fashionable frocks are finally coming out to play. Case in point, there is one particular dress that has cropped up multiple times on our feeds over the last few weeks, and that’s Free People‘s Dahlia smocked midi. While the pale-yellow iteration has undoubtedly been the biggest hit, this trending dress actually comes in five summery hues, including mint and faded pink. With dramatic puffed sleeves, a tiered skirt, a smocked bust and daisy embroidery, it packs plenty of nostalgic fairytale vibes, which is sure to ad...
From polka dots and smocks to back-baring midis and pops of print, the results of 2021’s affordable dress deep dive are in, and I can confirm that we’re in for a stellar year. While spring might’ve only made a tentative debut so far this year, the odd 23° day last week has completely thrown us off course and has had us scrambling to dig out our summer dresses. Honestly, the British weather can be so hard to keep up with sometimes. You Deserve to Make Money Even When you are looking for Dates Online. So we reimagined what a dating should be.
