Oyo discharges 11 coronavirus patients
The Oyo State Task Force on COVID-19, on Friday, recorded a major victory in its ongoing fight against the novel Coronavirus when it discharged 11 persons after they tested negative to COVID-19 twice. A statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Seyi Makinde, Mr. Taiwo Adisa, quoted a member of the Task Force and former Chief Medical Director of the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, Professor Temitope Alonge, as saying that after the discharge of the 11 cases, the Centre now had 32 patients, and that all but one, were in stable condition. Liberia has dropped charges against four former central bank bosses, including an ex-president’s son, in a highly publicised graft scandal over the mishandling of banknotes worth millions of dollars. Five people were indicted last year for “economic sabotage” and other crimes after a probe found that an order for cash worth some 16 billion Liberian dollars ($80.6 million, 74.6 million euros) could not be traced. Facebook is buying Giphy for $400 million
Facebook is buying the popular GIF-making and sharing website Giphy for $400 million, with plans to integrate the massive GIF library into Instagram and other Facebook apps. News of the deal was first reported by Axios, which revealed the $400 million value of the deal. Missing girl found dead inside co-tenants vehicle
Olujoda area of Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State capital on Friday, was thrown into mourning when the corpse of a 7-year -old girl Olagoke Morire, was found dead inside a vehicle owned by a co-tenant. It was gathered that Morire and her twin sister, Olagoke Mokore were with their cousin in their apartment before they went out to buy biscuits. The mother of the deceased Kehinde Ajayi said her daughter got missing around 1:15 pm after Mokore left her in the compound to fetch the money she forgot in the room. Kano trains 350 health workers on infectious disease control
A first batch training of 350 health workers on infectious disease control has commenced in Kano in collaboration with the National Centre for Disease Control, NCDC. Kano State Governor, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, on Friday urged the trainees to give adequate attention to patients with other ailments, even as they are in the heat of fighting COVID-19. Ganduje who delivered an address at the opening event of the training on Friday said that his government has intensified the fight against COVID-19 and charged the health workers to reciprocate. UN won’t vote electronically in Security Council election
The United Nations (UN) General Assembly will cast ballots in-person for five new non-permanent Security Council seats, its president said Thursday, effectively ruling out electronic voting despite the coronavirus pandemic. In a letter to UN members obtained by AFP, President Tijjani Muhammad-Bande said that voting members would be “invited to visit the venue at the designated time slot communicated to them in advance” in order to cast their ballot. Coronavirus: We have tested over 3 million since April – Wuhan
The epicentre of the new coronavirus outbreak in China, Wuhan says over 3 million residents have been tested for the pathogen since April. The State Media stated that tests will continue and this time will be focused on the rest of its 11 million population. The official Xinhua News Agency reported that the test, upon completion, is to help give the authorities a clear indication of the number of asymptomatic cases as businesses and schools reopen.
