HYPETALKS returned on Tuesday with another session focused on building community in web3. This time, HYPEBEAST Web3 Managing Editor Rosie Perper co-hosted the chat alongside HYPEBEAST’s new web3 portal, Hypemoon, and led a conversation with the brains behind Azuki — an NFT collective comprised of 10,000 avatars — Zagabond and Hoshiboy. Missed our #HYPETALKS with @AzukiZen? Here’s the recording:https://t.co/nFVPg4dIfG — HYPEBEAST (@HYPEBEAST) March 16, 2022 The discussion largely focused on the brand’s development and how its founders have successfully fostered an engaged and dedicated community, which they commonly refer to as “skaters of the internet.” Perper opened the conversation with a question on how exactly that moniker came to be. “If you’re in crypto, if you have traded NFTs, the ...

Microsoft says it has worked closely with Valve to get Xbox Cloud Gaming working on the Steam Deck. While Steam Deck users have been able to access the Xbox game streaming service, it wasn’t possible to use the handheld controls to play games. Microsoft has now released a beta version of Microsoft Edge for the Steam Deck that includes full support. “We worked closely with Valve and the Xbox Cloud Gaming team to bring support for Xbox Cloud Gaming (Beta) with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate through Microsoft Edge Beta for the Steam Deck,” says Missy Quarry, a community manager for Microsoft Edge. “We’re particularly excited about this ourselves as we feel it can open new opportunities in the Linux gaming community.” While a number of Xbox Game Studios titles are able to run natively on the Steam De...
Universal Control is one of the coolest software tricks that Apple has come up with in years, and it’s a perfect example of what’s possible when a company has full control both over hardware and the software that runs on those devices. There are similar concepts, like Logitech Flow, but nothing quite so polished or deeply integrated at the operating system level as Universal Control. When using Universal Control, you can use the keyboard and cursor from your Mac to control an iPad sitting beside it — and the opposite scenario also works. If you’ve got a Magic Keyboard for an iPad Pro, you can use that accessory’s keyboard and trackpad to control a Mac. To use Universal Control, your Mac needs to be running macOS 12.3 or later, while your iPad must be on iPadOS version 15.4 or later. You ca...
Microsoft may be making it more difficult to share your gameplay captures to Twitter, based on changes to Xbox Insider builds reported by Windows Central. Right now, on my Xbox Series X, I can post a screenshot or video directly to Twitter through the Xbox’s interface, but according to Windows Central, Insider builds have removed that option and instead direct you to share from your phone. Sharing Xbox captures from your phone isn’t new — I actually find it to be a pretty smooth experience. If you select a capture on your Xbox and then the option to share to mobile, your phone should pop a notification directing you right to that capture in the Xbox app so you can save and post it wherever you’d like. You might have to tweet clips from your phone instead But with the seemingly impending ch...
With gas prices painfully high, there’s a new plea coming from the international agency established to secure the globe’s oil supply: drive less to avoid a deeper energy crunch. That was the key takeaway from a 10-point plan the International Energy Agency (IEA) released today as the world nears peak oil demand season. “As a result of Russia’s appalling aggression against Ukraine, the world may well be facing its biggest oil supply shock in decades, with huge implications for our economies and societies,” IEA Executive Director Fatih Birol said in a press release. “We can also take action on demand to avoid the risk of a crippling oil crunch.” “The world may well be facing its biggest oil supply shock in decade” If advanced economies — which account for nearly half of global oil demand — c...
HYPETALKS returns on Monday, March 21, and will tackle the multitude of new ways that women are leaving their mark on web3. Titled HYPETALKS: Women Shapers of Web3, the diverse panel of women creatives will discuss representation in the digital world and building NFT projects that reflect a range of experiences. Betty and Mec are two of the names behind Deadfellaz, an Ethereum-based collection of 10,000 NFTs launched in August 2021. In addition to NFTs, the co-founders refer to Deadfellaz as a “metaverse brand” and have hosted events in Decentraland, including a token-gated Halloween party. In a rare move, Porsche announced that it is planning on building its own network of electric vehicle charging stations. It also announced that it aims to have 80 percent of its sales be electric vehicles by 2030. The move was outlined during the automaker’s annual meeting, in which it also revealed plans to expand its portfolio of EVs with an all-electric Macan compact SUV and 718 sports car. Porsche EV owners currently rely on third-party companies for their charging needs. The automaker, which sells the Porsche Taycan in addition to some plug-in hybrid models, has a partnership with EV charging provider Ionity, a joint venture with Ford, BMW, Daimler, and Porsche-parent company Volkswagen. But now, Porsche has expressed willingness to build its own EV charging network, á la Tesla’s Supe...
It’s hard to escape the Dyson Airwrap online. Beauty influencers gush about its powers all over TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube. But you may want to hold off on investing in one. Dyson announced on Thursday that it’s coming out with a new version of the Airwrap later this summer — and this one will be able to curl hair in both directions. The new Airwrap with all the attachments will cost $599. If you’re unfamiliar with the original Airwrap, it’s a hair curler that relies on something called the Coanda effect instead of heat. It uses a high-pressure motor to pull the hair onto the barrel, allowing users to style their hair “with air” while reducing the risk of heat damage. If you’ve ever seen it in action, it almost looks like hair magically latches onto the barrel. One of the bigger pain p...
Matter, the coming smart home standard that aims to be the answer to many of today’s smart home headaches, is supported by a long list of companies. From platform owners like Apple, Google, and Amazon to major manufacturers such as Samsung and LG and smaller, accessory-focused players like Nanoleaf, Eve, and Wyze, there’s an unprecedented industry coalition behind Matter. A common language for smart home devices to communicate, Matter aims to simplify everything about the smart home, from purchase, to set up, to everyday use. Its biggest promise is that it will enable smart devices to work with each other, across platforms and ecosystems, no matter who made them. But Matter hasn’t yet arrived — following another setback, it’s now expected to launch in the fall of 2022. This makes it hard t...
Twitter is testing a new feature for its Spaces audio rooms that allows a host to share a clip of recorded Spaces on their timeline. The feature is now available to “certain Hosts on iOS.” Everyone on iOS can see and listen to clips, while those on Android and the web will be able to “real soon,” according to Twitter. ever wish you could capture a moment from a Space? great because we’re testing clipping! certain Hosts on iOS can now clip 30 seconds of audio from recorded Spaces to share, everyone on iOS can see & listen to clips on the Timeline—coming to Android and web real soon pic.twitter.com/DZcV1dzGaz — Spaces (@TwitterSpaces) March 18, 2022 Clips are already quite useful on other platforms — they’re a handy way to share digestible bits of information or content.
