Eminem Makes History as Most-Certified Artist for Singles in RIAA

Eminem on Tuesday made history as the number-one awarded musician for singles in the Recording Industry Association of America‘s (RIAA) Gold and Platinum program with 73.5 million new certifications, moving his career total to 227.5 million.

Alongside the new certifications, the chart-topping rapper’s 2005 compilation album Curtain Call: The Hits received the RIAA’s Diamond Album Award, marking Eminem’s third trophy in the full-length category.

Eminem’s career-high figure represents 166 million single certifications and 61.5 million certifications, as well as six RIAA Diamond Awards (three for singles and three for albums).

“These awards recognize Eminem’s unflinching commitment to his craft and the enduring connection he has forged with fans over the last twenty years,” said RIAA Chairman/CEO Mitch Glazier in a statement. “With today’s announcement, Eminem becomes the top certified singles artist in our program’s history and adds a rare third Diamond Album to his many creative accomplishments. Congratulations to Eminem and his entire label team who have set the bar higher than ever!”

Eminem is one of only seven artists in any genre or era to receive three or more Diamond Album Awards, joining acts including Garth Brooks (9), The Beatles (6), Led Zeppelin (5), the Eagles (3), Shania Twain (3) and Whitney Houston (3). The esteemed trophy is awarded to artists after their record has sold more than 10 million copies.

Steve Berman, Vice Chairman at Interscope, added, “Interscope joins Aftermath in congratulating Marshall, Paul, and the entire Shady team on this remarkable achievement. It has been an honor to be part of one of the greatest journeys in the history of recorded music. The most beautiful part of this is it feels like the journey has just begun.”

Elsewhere in music, Vince Staples has dropped the first “commercial” for his upcoming LP Ramona Park Broke My Heart.
