Formula 1 Champion Lewis Hamilton Joins Denver Broncos Ownership Group

Gearing up for the final steps for the purchase of the Denver Broncos, Walmart heir Rob Walton has announced that the ownership group, Walton-Penner group has added yet another high-profile investor to seal the deal.

The acquisition, which is set for August 9, will now see the seven-time Formula 1 champion Lewis Hamilton will now have an ownership stake in the team. Hamilton joins United State Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, who joined as an investor in the group last month. In a statement from Walton, he welcomes Hamilton into the Broncos family stating, “We’re delighted to welcome seven-time Formula One World Champion Sir Lewis Hamilton to our ownership group. He is a champion competitor who knows what it takes to lead a winning team.”

Earlier today, Hamilton expressed his excitement to become a part-owner of the NFL team sharing, “Excited to join an increidble group of owners and become a part of the @Broncos story!!” As the monthslong sale nears the end, it remains to be seen who else will be brought on as part-owner. The deal was first brought forward in June when the Walton-led group agreed to purchase the Broncos for $4.65 billion USD. The NFL is scheduled to put the sale to vote between the team owners on August 9.
