Hyundai Unveils the Long-Awaited IONIQ 6 EV

More than a year after the South Korean automaker unveiled its IONIQ 5 crossover, Hyundai has finally unveiled the IONIQ 6, a new fully-electric sedan. Inspired by the original Prophecy concept that was shown back in 2020, the IONIQ 6 takes on an extremely streamlined design, placing great emphasis on aerodynamic efficiency.

While most other cars in the market have on average a drag coefficient ranging from 0.25 to 0.3, Hyundai’s latest creation comes in at just 0.21, thanks to a whole range of smart features such as its low nose, active air flaps, wheel gap reducers, optional slim digital side mirrors, an elliptical wing-inspired spoiler, a slight boat-tail construction, and separation traps on both sides of the rear bumper. With no stone left unturned, the automak2er even made its underside aerodynamically advanced, using a full undercarriage cover, optimized deflectors and reduced wheel-arch gaps.

As for the interior, the IONIQ 6 offers what Hyundai calls a “cocoon-shaped” cabin that is mostly made with sustainable materials to further the automaker’s green initiative, including eco-processed leather and recycled PET fabric. Since the EV is built upon the brand’s new modular platform, designers and engineers were able to keep the floor of the interior completely flat, giving passengers a more spacious experience. Rounding out the car is a modular touchscreen dash, a 12-inch touchscreen display and another 12-inch digital cluster.

Unfortunately, specs haven’t been revealed yet and there’s no release date for now, so those interested should stay tuned for more updates from Hyundai.

In other related news, Volkswagen has previewed its first fully-electric sedan concept.
