JID isn’t trying to pick up where he left off with his first piece of new music since 2022’s The Forever Story – an album many outlets deemed one of the most impressive contemporary hip-hop offerings of today’s day and age. After first previewing “WRK” at Dreamville Festival earlier this month, JID has properly released the high-energy new cut that seems to usher in an entirely new rollout for the rapper.
“Starting this new journey coming off The Forever Story has been a very strange, productive yet tedious process,” he wrote in the video announcing “WRK”‘s release earlier this week.
“I remember not feeling like I got what I think I deserved after that album came out and it sent me into a dark place (for maybe 20 mins cus I ain’t no b*tch). Fast forward to Pluss playing this beat for me in the studio, and all I could hear was my OG coach saying ‘Let’s go to WORK.’ I live my life by the saying ‘You can only control what you can control.’ So this is the first step into a new world that I control. And. It’s. F*cking. UGLY.”
With that being said, the rapper’s next longform release does appear to be right around the corner, with God Does Like Ugly confirmed to be in the pipeline.
