Mr. keeps it forever young with We’ll Meet Again at the Fukuoka Asian Art Museum. Running through June 21, 2026, the exhibition delves into the Kaikai Kiki-backed artist’s chaotic and cute visual language with nods to nostalgia, video games, manga and the rebellious spirit yanki subculture.

His first domestic solo in over a decade, the show gathers over 80 paintings, sculptures, installations and video works, immersing audiences into his distinct brand of “Japanese Pop.”

Must-sees include an immersive installation taking shape as bedroom trashed with beer cans, manga titles, stacked box TVs and paintings, alongside a screening of the artist’s 2008 film, Nobody Dies. Another section taps into motor-culture, featuring a cat-eared itasha; a new, decked out motorcycle work and the massive “The Metamorphosis” pile making its Japanese debut.

After coming onto the scene in the 90’s, Mr.’s become beloved for his hand in the Superflat movement, using a playfully chaotic style to capture the sensitivity and instability of adolescence. His work reflects and refracts the tireless churn of contemporary consumer culture, namely in Japan, while also exploring the tension between “kawaii” charm and existential feelings of digital isolation, with hope for how to escape it.
