Steven Spielberg is now planning on bringing back Steve McQueen‘s classic character Frank Bullitt in a new original project.

According to Variety, the esteemed director will be reviving the San Francisco cop from the 1968 action thriller Bullitt with the help of The Post and Spotlight‘s Josh Singer, who’ll be writing the screenplay. Long-time collaborator Kristie Macosko Krieger will serve as producer alongside McQueen’s son Chad McQueen and granddaughter Molly McQueen as executive producers.

based on the 1963 novel Mute WitnessBullitt debuted in 1968 under Warner Bros. and followed the titular character’s investigation into the death of an informant from the mob. Aside from McQueen’s stellar performance, the film was also most known for its thrilling car chases, which were all performed by McQueen himself with a modified Ford Mustang. Bullitt also took home the Academy Award for editing while being nominated for sound as well.

For now, details remain scarce around Spielberg’s original take, with no script or casting attached just yet, so those interested should stay tuned for more updates to come.
