The legend of Jon Snow has yet to be fully told. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Kit Harington has signed on to reprise the character in an upcoming Game of Thrones sequel series. It’s the first known Game of Thrones spin-off series that’ll take place after the events of the original series. In the case of Jon Snow’s character, he was last seen heading North of the Wall after killing Daenerys Targaryen. Needless to say, the news is surprising for a variety of reasons. For one, HBO programming president Casey Bloys previously ruled out a spin-off series featuring the original GoT stars. “Nope, nope, nope. No. Part of it is, I do want this show — this Game of Thrones, [David Benioff and D.B. Weiss]’s show — to be its own thing. I don’t want to take characters from this world that they d...
New Jersey native Bruce Springsteen keeps crashing others artists’ concerts in his home state. The Boss’ latest victim was Paul McCartney, who welcomed the fellow music legend to the stage during a show at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey on Thursday. McCartney introduced Springsteen’s appearance as a “birthday present to myself” (the former Beatle turns 80 years old this weekend). Springsteen proceeded to wish Macca “80 more years of glory days” before playing the classic Born in the U.S.A. anthem. The two then teamed up to perform The Beatles’ “I Wanna Be Your Man.” Watch the on-stage collaboration go down below. Earlier this month, Springsteen crashed Coldplay’s concert at MetLife Stadium to perform “Working on a Dream” and “Dancing in the Dark.” Next year, Bruce and ...
Bey’s focus on the past adds depth and context to Remember Your North Star’s stories about the relationships in her life today. Vacillating between come-ons and teardowns, her stances are always moving. On the woozy “don’t fucking call me,” as she ruminates on post-breakup loneliness in an airy upper register, she describes a toughened sense of adoration for a challenging lover: “Love you like cooked food, baby, you’s a meal,” her pitch-shifted voice chants, “Only cost a few gray hairs/That’s a steal.” She constantly shifts into different modes of lyrical and vocal expression, each one more poetic and surprising than the last. “keisha” is a masterclass in melody, adopting the swagger of R&B’s greatest shit-talkers while retaining Bey’s coolheaded style. The song’s washed-out guitar m...
The Pitch: Baz Luhrmann, the Australian maximalist behind such audaciously stylized films as Moulin Rouge! and The Great Gatsby, has taken on his first biopic, and it’s a monster. Although a few attempts have been made at dramatizing the life story of Elvis Presley, most notably Kurt Russell in John Carpenter’s 1979 film also titled Elvis, Luhrmann’s movie is by far the biggest and boldest yet, with an $85 million budget dwarfing every other Presley biopic combined. Austin Butler, a 30-year-old actor who made his name with several teen and tween-friendly TV roles on the Disney Channel and The CW, is the unlikely star of this massive biography of the King of Rock’n’Roll. An Anaheim native whose most prestigious previous project was a small role as a member of the Manson Family in Once Upon ...
Jack Black is back as the Kung Fu Panda, but whether Po Ping is still the official Dragon Knight is up for debate. Drake’s been quiet on the solo front since last fall, but he’s ending that drought by dropping a surprise album called HONESTLY, NEVERMIND at midnight. Without any warning, Drake announced the impending album on his Instagram on Thursday afternoon. “7th studio album “HONESTLY, NEVERMIND” out at midnight,” he wrote alongside an image of what is presumably the album’s artwork. When Two Door Cinema Club returned back in 2019 with False Alarm, there was a delightful tone of being “seriously unserious.” But now, that lighthearted message means something a bit different; after two years of a pandemic and a lengthy period of being stuck at home, playful and positive art helped lessen the weight of our global situation, and as most of us exit lockdown, there’s a definable sense of tension around re-entering the world and starting over. For Two Door Cinema Club, they just want you to keep calm and smile on. Today (June 16th), they’ve announced their forthcoming fifth studio album, set for release on September 2nd of this year. Keep On Smiling as a title implies a couple different things: for one, it’s a steadfast image of positivity and optimism, a plea to keep sp...
