Christina Ricci Joins Netflix’s Wednesday Series in Return to Addams Family

Addams Family fans can rest easy knowing Christina Ricci has rejoined the franchise as a series regular in Wednesday, Tim Burton’s upcoming Netflix live-action show. The streaming giant made the announcement on Monday, revealing that Ricci will portray “an exciting new character.” Ricci is the actress most closely associated with playing Wednesday, the only daughter of Gomez and Morticia Addams. In the early 1990s, she portrayed the character in a pair of movies directed by Barry Sonnenfeld, The Addams Family and Addams Family Values. When the Netflix series was announced, some fans even launched a petition for Ricci to be cast as an older version of Wednesday. However, Deadline has confirmed Ricci will be playing an entirely new character rather revisiting her previous...

How Turning Red and The Baby-Sitters Club Prove We Need More Teen Girl Tales

It’s a bit funny to remember how, thirteen years ago, the enemy of fandom had a face, and it was Robert Pattinson. This is a bit of an exaggeration, except maybe it isn’t, when one remembers how the 2009 San Diego Comic-Con, that annual orgy of fandom love, featured a nasty undercurrent of young men “protesting” Twilight‘s invasion of Hall H. In the year 2022, of course, Pattinson has now been embraced to some degree by the fanboys as our newest on-screen Batman. But while that might have changed, the vibes of those lackluster protests remain a too-familiar echo of an attitude to which female members of fandom have always been aware: In the pantheon of the great media landscape which distracts and delights us daily, girly shit is always seen as second-class. Not important. Not because it’s...

Judge Moves to Terminate Amanda Bynes’ Conservatorship

Amanda Bynes may be mere hours away from freedom. On March 21st, as TMZ reports, a judge ruled that the former child star’s conservatorship is “no longer required,” paving the way for the legal oversight to officially end at a hearing scheduled on March 22nd. Bynes lost control of her personal, medical, and financial affairs in 2013 after she set a neighbor’s driveway on fire. Her mother was named conservator, and since then the All That standout has struggled with drug addiction and bipolar disorder. In 2020, a judge ordered her into a psychiatric facility. After nine years, Bynes filed to end the conservatorship last month. Reportedly, her parents are supportive of the decision, which is one of the reasons that the often slow wheels of justice are moving so quick...

Pavement’s Bob Nastanovich Launches Fundraiser for Daniel Johnston’s Cat

Daniel Johnston left behind a massive cult following when he died in 2019, but he also left behind a pet cat who’s been living alone ever since. Now, Pavement drummer Bob Nastanovich is helping out by launching a GoFundMe campaign for the feline, who needs oral surgery. Nastanovich is seeking $2,000 for Spunky, who was recently discovered in pretty poor condition. Laura Anderson, Johnston’s former tour manager, explained the cat’s situation in a note posted to the fundraiser. “Daniel’s cat Spunky has lived all alone in his house since he died and was recently taken to a rescue organization,” Anderson wrote. “She has had a tumor in her mouth and a cancer scare (fortunately her biopsy was negative). She is slowly returning to health; the final challenge is to take out all her teeth, and she ...

DREAM THEATER’s JAMES LABRIE Lashes Out Over Lip-Sync Allegations: ‘F**k You’

DREAM THEATER singer James LaBrie has pushed back against allegations that he uses pre-recorded vocal tracks during live performances. The rumor that LaBrie has been relying on pre-recorded backing tracks gained strength last month after fan videos of DREAM THEATER‘s current North American tour were shared on YouTube. Some fans have pointed specifically to the post-chorus of the DREAM THEATER song “Bridges In The Sky” where the alleged lip syncing occurs. LaBrie finally addressed the Internet chatter during DREAM THEATER‘s concert this past Friday (March 18) at Bayou Music Center in Houston, Texas. He told the crowd: “I’m gonna fucking clarify something for you now, okay? People have been saying I’m fucking lip syncing? Fuck you. Fucking, what is w...

The Delicate, Dirty and Diverse World of UK Garage

An upbeat two-step rhythm, a touch of R&B soul, and a groovy house vibe. That’s what it takes to conjure the sound of the people — or as those people call it, UK garage. You may know it from Daniel Bedingfield’s 2001 UK No. 1 “Gotta Get Thru This” or T2’s 2007 single “Heartbroken” with Jodie Aysha. Maybe you heard the recent streaming hit “Pain” by breakout star PinkPantheress, and wondered to yourself where you could find more. From the London streets in the mid ’90s to the modern stages of now, the upbeat rhythms and flirtatious vocals of UK garage is a sound that stays fresh after 30 years due mostly in part to its inherent diversity: diversity of sounds, of influencers, and of creators and fans alike. Advertisement While garage is a definitely UK kinda vibe, the genre has its roots...

Tool’s Maynard James Keenan Pranks Drummer Danny Carey with Dildo Mid-Show: Watch

Tool frontman Maynard James Keenan played an epic prank on drummer Danny Carey mid-show, replacing one of his drum mallets with a dildo. Keenan is known to get into some shenanigans when Carey takes the spotlight for his drum solo, like playing Jenga next to the drum kit earlier on the tour. The singer’s latest stunt involved a large dildo. Tool shared the video, which was filmed at one of their recent concerts. Keenan covertly army crawls under the curtain behind Carey, who’s shredding away at his kit during the solo. When he reaches down for his gong mallet, he instead grabs the phallus, and hits the gong with the sex toy instead. Advertisement Related Video Maynard is of course giddy with satisfaction, having pulled off the prank. The clip ends with him maniacally waving the dildo at th...

Ukrainian President Zelensky Thanks Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher for Raising $35 Million in Aid

In just over two weeks, Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher have raised a whopping $35 million to provide humanitarian aid to refugees of Ukraine following the ongoing invasion by Russia. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky recently hopped on Zoom with the couple to express his gratitude for the couple’s efforts, while also sharing a snapshot of the call on social media. “.@aplusk & Mila Kunis were among the first to respond to our grief,” Zelensky wrote on Twitter. “They have already raised $35 million & are sending it to @flexport & @Airbnb to help [Ukrainian] refugees. Grateful for their support. Impressed by their determination. They inspire the world.” Earlier this month, Kunis (who immigrated from Ukraine to the US in 1991) and her husband started a ...

Consequence’s 2022 SXSW Party at Brooklyn Bowl’s Family Reunion: Recap + Photo Gallery

It seems like we’ve been saying “live music is returning” for a year now. For a moment last summer, it felt like it was fully back before a fall variant threw everything out of whack again. There’s honestly no knowing whether another hold is on the horizon, but if there’s a sure sign concerts are back with a vengeance, it’s the return of South by Southwest. After being forced into a second virtual iteration last year, the long-running music conference and festival returned to Austin last week to once again bring together artists, fans, and industry figures for a celebration of all things live music. We at Consequence couldn’t have been more ecstatic to be part of the activities, reteaming with Brooklyn Bowl and Relix for the third “annual” Family Reunion at SXSW. Taking place on Friday, Ma...
