SLIPKNOT has finally officially confirmed the identity of its latest recruit, the percussionist nicknamed Tortilla Man. As widely speculated, SLIPKNOT‘s newest member is the multi-instrumentalist Michael Pfaff. Pfaff previously played keyboards with SLIPKNOT‘s Shawn “Clown” Crahan in the band DIRTY LITTLE RABBITS and is also a member of the Iowa-based duo THE SNACKS. Earlier today, the band’s official Instagram account released a photo of a masked Pfaff promoting his upcoming Reddit AMA, with Michael holding a handwritten sign in the picture that says: “I Am Michael Pfaff, AMA Wednesday 3/16/22, 2 pm CT”. The modern American family is held together as much by shared streaming passwords as it is by love. Many first calls from college are prompted by a blank Netflix login screen, and every additional personal account represents someone who knows the secret word, one our most prized shibboleths. Netflix knows we love those people, even when they live in other households, and it’s now trying to puzzle out exactly how many more dollars per month we love them. In a new blog post, the streaming giant announced that it would test new multiple-household password-sharing fees in three markets: Chile, Costa Rica, and Peru. Of course, they didn’t use the word ‘fee,’ but that’s what you’re left with once you’ve translated from the original corporate gobbledygook: “We’ve been working on ways t...
This review is part of our coverage of the 2022 SXSW Film Festival. The Pitch: Anyone and everyone who was alive in the summer of 1969 likely knows where they were when they saw the first men landing on the moon on their television screens. But for young Stan (Milo Coy), his experience was a li’l different. Turns out, months before the iconic trip, the suburban Houstonite was approached by a couple of NASA suits for a once-in-a-lifetime mission. You see, due to an engineering blunder, they’d built the lunar module juuust a bit too small for an adult astronaut. So they needed a kid. And Stan, of course, is the perfect candidate. Related Video This didn’t happen, of course; it’s the stuff of childhood reverie, and adult Stan (Jack Black), who narrates, establishes early that he was a “fabuli...

NIGHTWISH‘s Floor Jansen has unveiled the cover artwork of her new solo single, “Fire”. Check it out below. The track will be released on March 25. Less than two months ago, the 41-year-old Dutch-born singer, who made her live debut with NIGHTWISH nearly a decade ago, stated about the musical direction of “Fire”: “It’s a pop song, so it’s not metal, it’s not rock, but it’s definitely me.” Jansen went on to explain that the track will not necessarily be representative of all the new solo music she has been working on in recent months. “I guess it’s more of a mash-up [of styles] actually,” she said, referring to her upcoming collection of solo material, “though it’s not so extreme as in genres, li...

Legendary Swedish guitarist Yngwie Malmsteen has launched a new interview series dubbed “Yngwie Malmsteen’s Coffee Talk”. In the first episode, Yngwie sits down with fellow iconic axeman Steve Vai. Check out part one of the chat below. This past January, Vai spoke to Myglobalmind about what it was like for him to join Malmsteen for a performance of the Swedish guitarist’s classic song “Black Star” during their joint “Generation Axe” tour, which took place over several legs between 2016 and 2019. He said: “I can’t play like Yngwie; nobody can play like him. Nobody can play like me. Nobody can play like anybody. What I did was take the harmony or melody of the song and play it the way I would do it. It was challenging because there ...
RATING: 8.5/10 Exactly five years on from the release of their excellent “Lunar” debut, WITHOUT WAVES are in an uncompromising mood. “Good Grief” kicks off the Chicagoan quartet’s second album with a flurry of machine-gun riffs and cudgeling, syncopated beats, and the impact is undeniable. When the song takes a peculiar detour through dubbed-out post-rock before exploding again with even more unhinged intensity, this band’s subversive streak is writ large across every note. You might even call WITHOUT WAVES a progressive metal band, were it not for the fact that no prog metal band has ever sounded like this before. Songs like “Animal Kingdom” and “.algorithm” are unashamedly extreme and often fiendishly complex, but they also refu...
