She & Him, the duo of Zooey Deschanel and M. Ward, have announced a new album of Brian Wilson and Beach Boys covers. Melt Away: A Tribute to Brian Wilson is out July 22 via Fantasy and it features Wilson himself on their version of “Do It Again.” First up is their rendition of “Darlin’” off 1967’s Wild Honey; watch the video below. Soccer Mommy has announced a U.S. tour. After some previously scheduled dates, her latest run will kick off in October. Sophie Allison has also shared the latest single from her new album Sometimes Forever. It’s called “Bones” and it arrives with a new video from Her Smell director Alex Ross Perry. Watch it below. “‘Bones’ is a song about struggling with the parts of yourself that you don’t like in a relationship,” Allison said in a statement. “It’s about wanting to become better for someone and feeling like you’re standing in your own way.” Sometimes Forever is out on June 24 via Loma Vista. Interpol have shared another single from their forthcoming album The Other Side of Make-Believe. This one’s called “Fables”—listen to it below. “‘Fables’ features one of Daniel’s hottest licks,” Paul Banks said in a statement, referring to guitarist Daniel Kessler. “A breezy vocal with optimistic lyrics and a bouncy drum beat evocative of classic R&B with a nod to the golden age of hip hop. It’s a summer jam and a piece of music we are particularly proud of.” The Other Side of Make-Believe is out July 15 via Matador. The new song follows “Toni” and “Something Changed.” It’s the band’s seventh studio album and the follow-up to 2018’s Marauder. In a new Rolling Stone article about Taylor Hawkins, friends and colleagues of the late drummer gave interviews about his final months. It includes quotes claiming that Hawkins privately expressed discomfort about Foo Fighters’ extensive tour schedule. The band’s representatives denied these characterizations. Pearl Jam’s Matt Cameron and Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Chad Smith, who were among the sources discussing Hawkins’ final private conversations, have since released statements today apologizing to Hawkins’ bandmates and family. New York’s State Senate approved a bill Tuesday (May 17) that would limit prosecutors’ use of song lyrics and other forms of “creative expression” as evidence in criminal cases. Senate Bill S7527 would not ban prosecutors from presenting lyrics or other material to a jury, but would require them to show that the work is “literal, rather than figurative or fictional.” The bill, which was sponsored by Senators Jamaal Bailey and Brad Hoylman, received public support from Jay-Z, Meek Mill, Killer Mike, Fat Joe, and Robin Thicke, among others.
