Marvel’s Avengers Cast to Assemble for Joe Biden Fundraiser

Fictional or not, Marvel’s The Avengers are assembling in support of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. As Variety reports, the blockbuster stars behind Disney’s billion-dollar franchise will soon get together for a virtual fundraiser. Set for October 20th at 6:45 p.m. ET, the event will see Don Cheadle, Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Paul Rudd, Mark Ruffalo, Zoe Saldana, and the Russo brothers reunite for some Q&A and trivia with Harris. Most of these names should come as no surprise for anyone. After all, both Evans and Ruffalo alone have been incredibly vocal over the importance of this election. Some have even pestered Cap on whether he might one day run himself. Of course, that roster is about a third of the actual on-screen Avengers, which certainly leaves the door open for countless...

Adele to Host Saturday Night Live

Adele will get a chance to show off her comedic chops when she hosts Saturday Night Live this coming weekend. In a surprise booking, the powerhouse pop singer has been announced as the host of SNL’s October 24th episode. Even more interesting, she won’t double as the evening’s musical guest. Instead, H.E.R. will take the stage as the evening’s musical performer. In an Instagram post announcing her impending appearance, Adele wrote, “Bloooooody hellllll I’m so excited about this!! And also absolutely terrified! My first ever hosting gig and for SNL of all things!!!! I’ve always wanted to do it as a stand alone moment, so that I could roll up my sleeves and fully throw myself into it, but the time has never been right. But if there was ever a time for any of us to jump head first into the de...

Bruce Willis Returns as John McClane for Epic Die Hard Car Battery Commercial: Watch

Yippee-ki-yay, folks: John McClane is back — and in a car battery commercial of all places. Today, Advance Auto Parts dropped a wildly epic commercial that finds Bruce Willis back in the saddle as his iconic Die Hard hero. The crossover makes sense, however, as the automotive market is highlighting a new line of — you guessed it — DieHard batteries. Like the best blockbusters, the gist of the commercial is pretty simple: McClane is stuck in a rock and a hard place as he car breaks down. Fortunately, he’s near an Advance Auto Parts, where they just so happen to have those aforementioned DieHard batteries. The catch? He just so happens to face all of his old foes and even one of his former sidekicks. Fans of John McTiernan’s 1988 original classic will no doubt notice a couple of familiar fac...

Beastie Boys License a Song for an Ad for First Time and It’s for Joe Biden: Watch

Believe it or not, but the Beastie Boys has never licensed a song for any advertisement — that is, until now. As Variety points out, the legendary New York outfit gave the green light to Joe Biden to use “Sabotage” in his latest campaign spot. The spot in question revolves around how COVID-19 has affected the live music industry, zeroing in on the collateral damage to Ann Arbor’s historic venue The Bling Pig. Founded in 1971, the club has played host to everyone from Joan Baez to Nirvana. “For 50 years, the Blind Pig has been open and crowded, but right now, it’s an empty room,” Joe Malcoun, co-owner of the Blind Pig, explains in the commercial. This is the reality of Trump’s Covid response.” Malcoun adds, “This is Donald Trump’s economy: There is no plan and you don’t know how to go ...

Though some as-yet-unnamed special guests will make an appearance during the livestream, there will be no in-person audience. Snger Blōthar the Berserker doesn’t seem to mind, however. “We always wanted to do a concert without an audience in the room,” Blōthar said in a press release. “The audience is always the worst part. Well, that and the fact that we’re constantly being attacked by a bunch of assholes while we try to get through a set. Man, I hop...

Foo Fighters Play First Show Since Pandemic at the Troubadour for #SOSFest: Watch

On Saturday, the members of Foo Fighters reunited for their first show together since the beginning the pandemic. As part of #SOSFest, a three-day digital festival benefiting independent music venues, Dave Grohl and co. delivered a five-song acoustic set from the Troubadour in Los Angeles. Grohl, Taylor Hawkins, Pat Smear, Chris Shiflett, Nate Mendel, and Rami Jaffee stuck to their greatest hits, playing songs like “Skin and Bones”, “My Hero”, and “These Days”. The performance then concluded with a pair of Grohl solo performances, as he crooned his way through “Times Like These” and “Everlong”. In between songs, Foo Fighters reminisced about their personal history with the Troubadour over the years. Grohl recalled playing the venue with his pre-Nirvana band Scream, while Smear remembe...

Miley Cyrus Covers The Cure and The Cranberries at #SOSFest: Watch

No one loves a cover quite like Miley Cyrus. A trend that started with her singing Nine Inch Nails’ “Head Like a Hole” at Glastonbury last summer has since manifested in her covering Pink Floyd’s “Comfortably Numb” and “Wish You Were Here”, Led Zeppelin’s “Black Dog”, The Doors’ “Roadhouse Blues”, The Beatles’ “Help!”, Billie Eilish’s “my future”, and Hall & Oates’ “Maneater”. For her appearance at this weekend’s #SOSFest, Cyrus added two more songs to her repertoire. As part of her three-song performance from Whisky A Go Go in West Hollywood, Cyrus turned in spirited covers of The Cure’s “Boys Don’t Cry” and The Cranberries’ “Zombie”. She also performed her own new single, “Midnight Sky”. Watch it all down below. Organized by the National Independent Venue Association, this weekend’s ...

Tommy Lee Fires Back at Ted Nugent: “Is That Guy Even Still Alive … I Thought He Shot Himself”

Forget Trump vs. Biden — the nastiest right wing vs. left wing feud is brewing between veteran rockers Ted Nugent and Tommy Lee. Following some disparaging remarks by Nugent about the Mötley Crüe drummer, Lee has fired back at the guitarist with a vengeance. As we reported Wednesday, Nugent seemingly went out of his way to call Lee “a convicted felon, domestic violence heroin addict” during a recent appearance on the political podcast Blunt Force Truth. It was just a matter of time before Lee retaliated, and he did just that on Wednesday night. The drummer tweeted, “Ted Nugent? ….Is that guy even still alive? ….. I thought he shot himself like 20 yrs ago.” A little harsh, indeed, but Lee is playing off the fact that Nugent has long been a proud gun-toting member of the NRA. When the M...

M. Ward Announces Billie Holiday Tribute Album Think of Spring, Shares “For Heaven’s Sake”: Stream

M. Ward, photo by Holly Andres M. Ward released his latest album, Migration Stories, back in April of this year. Now, he’s already set to return with more new music — well, new takes on old music, at least. Ward has announced a Billie Holiday tribute album called Think of Spring, due out December 11th via ANTI-. The collection is a reimagining of the majority of Holiday’s 1958 record Lady in Satin, along with the classic “All the Way”. Ward previously performed all the Lady in Satin tracks during a Los Angeles show in 2018. That concert was done with a quartet, but for Think of Spring, he deconstructed the songs for acoustic guitar using alternative tunings and recorded mostly to an analog Tascom four-track. “I first heard Lady in Satin in a mega-shopping mall somewhere in San Francisco,” ...

Oasis Classic “Wonderwall” Becomes First ’90s Song to Hit One Billion Streams

Today is gonna be the day that… Oasis enter the history books. The British rock group’s anthemic “Wonderwall” has just become the first ’90s song to hit one billion streams on Spotify. The momentous milestone comes as the single, as well as the classic album on which it appears, (What’s the Story) Morning Glory?, celebrates its 25th anniversary. “Wonderwall” was originally released on October 30th, 1995 as the third single from (What’s the Story). Written by Noel Gallagher, it’s said to describe “an imaginary friend who’s gonna come and save you from yourself.” The song has gone on to become one of — if not the — most popular in the entire Oasis catalog, and has even spawned its own meme. Its corresponding music video is also Oasis’ most viewed. At the 1997 Grammys, “Wonderwall” earned the...

Phil Collins Hits Trump with Cease and Desist Order After Playing “In the Air Tonight”

Phil Collins has hit Donald Trump’s presidential campaign with a cease and desist order following the unauthorized use of “In the Air Tonight” during a rally in Iowa on Wednesday night. Collins’ 1981 solo single was played aloud prior to Trump taking the stage in Des Moines, Iowa. The campaign has a tendency of using songs without listening to their lyrics — the most recent example being CCR’s “Fortunate Son” — but playing a song titled “In the Air Tonight” as an airborne virus continues to ravage the country seems particular tone-deaf. Then again, it could’ve also been the campaign’s way of flipping a middle finger at health officials and media members who question why Trump is holding mass gatherings where many of the attendees are not wearing masks. Whatever the case, Trump’s campaign d...

Mac DeMarco Joins Benny Sings on New Song “Rolled Up”: Stream

For Record Store Day, Mac DeMarco released not one, but two new demo albums for 2019’s Here Comes the Cowboy. The jizz jazzer has returned now with a feature on “Rolled Up”, the latest single from Dutch pop artist Benny Sings. DeMarco’s lo-fi and lax aesthetic is well represented here, as is Benny Sings’ throwback groove, which sounds like a cross between the Bee Gees and The Stylistics. For all the chillness between them, though, “Rolled Up” is full of heavy existential reflection: “Rolled up, tossed out/ Trying to understand why my life turned south/ Oh I’m holed up, locked out, shut in, held down,” the opening verse reads. In a statement, Benny Sings talked about the track’s meaning and how it came together back during pre-coronavirus times: “The song is about being in the dumps without...
