Disney Seems to Have Scrapped ‘Star Wars: Rangers of the New Republic’

Disney may not be going forward with Star Wars: Rangers of the New Republic after all. Originally announced back in December last year, the new Star Wars project would follow the adventures and missions of New Republic soldiers during the same time period as The Mandalorian, with Gina Carano’s Cara Dune highly likely to have made an appearance before the actress fell out with Disney. Unfortunately for fans of the Star Wars universe, it now seems that Disney has given up on the project altogether, instead, taking some of its core story arcs and inserting them into the other numerous series currently in development. PBS has officially dropped the upcoming trailer for David Tennant‘s new series, Around the World in 80 days. Tennant, who was in Jessica Jones and Doctor Who, plays the character of Phileas Fogg. Referred to as the adventurer, the trailer begins by following Fogg as he is introduced to his fellow companion Abigail Fix, played by Leonie Benesch. Abigail accompanies Fogg on his journey, where audiences get hear him discuss his goal of travelling around the entire world in just 80 days. The trailer showcases some of the mishappenings as they venture off to different parts of the world, encountering a broad range of dangerous scenarios. Disney to Spend $33 Billion USD on Content in 2022

Disney will be spending $33 billion USD on content in 2022. According to the company’s latest SEC filing, the company has allocated that gigantic sum to produce even more content over the course of its next fiscal year, marking an $8 billion USD increase over its $25 billion USD spent in 2021. The figure also significantly trumps the budgets from competitors Discovery and Netflix, which have spent $20 billion USD and $14 billion USD respectively. “The increase is driven by higher spend to support our DTC expansion and generally assumes no significant disruptions to production due to COVID-19,” reads Disney’s report. Riding on the success of the Venom franchise and the anticipation for both Morbius and Kraven the Hunter, Sony Pictures is now rumored to be expanding its own Spider-verse with even more Spider-Man villain spin-offs. According to a new report from The Direct — which cited insider Daniel Richtman as its source — the company is now looking to develop franchises for two more of Spidey’s most notorious enemies: Rhino and Sandman. Dennis Villeneuve‘s Dune is set to return to IMAX theaters in December 2021. According to reports, the adaptation of Frank Herbert’s sci-fi epic will make its way back to IMAX theaters on December 3 for a limited time only. Deadline states that Dune’s IMAX-exclusive 1.90:1 aspect ratio will allow audiences to see 26% more picture, while its 1.43 aspect ratio in select theaters worldwide boasts of 40% more picture. Hayao Miyazaki is back in the director’s chair for the first time since 2013’s The Wind Rises with his last Studio Ghibli film. In an interview with the New York Times, the filmmaker shared that he has been working on the new movie for the last four years and that it is based on Genzaburo Yoshino’s novel How Do You Live? Peacock Releases First Teaser for ‘The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air’ Reboot

Peacock has offered a new teaser of its reboot of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. The hourlong series comes from Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith‘s Westbrook Studios and is based on Morgan Cooper’s popular fan film that re-examines the original series. The Peacock version is set in present-day America where Will Smith’s character is played by Jabar Banks. Paying an homage to the original persona, Banks wears Jordan’s while dancing to the theme song.
