Our recurring new music series Origins is where artists can reveal the stories behind their latest release. Today, Blake Rose shares the story behind his latest single, “Demon.” “I performed ‘Demon’ for the first time on tour opening for Ashe in April and it was the most exhilarating experience,” recalls Blake Rose. “I’ve never had that kind of reaction to an unreleased song before, which made me super excited to put it out.” “Demon,” out via AWAL Recordings, was released in April, and today (May 17th), Rose is premiering a special live performance visual exclusively via Consequence. It’s the first new music from the Australia-born artist (who is now based in Los Angeles) since his March 2022 release, “Confidence.” Advertisement Related Video The bright and bouncy pop track transforms once...
Built to Spill have shared “Understood,” a new song that uses Even Knievel as a launchpad for reflections on risk, limitations, and uncertainty. Frontman Doug Martsch was just a toddler when Knievel came to his hometown of Twin Falls, Idaho to attempt jumping the Snake River Canyon. Knievel’s parachute opened prematurely, causing the rocket to pause just before reaching the other side. The stuntman drifted to the bottom of the Snake River Canyon, narrowly missing the water, which is lucky because his release harness had also malfunctioned. As is, Knievel suffered only minor injuries. Martsch directly references the jump in “Understood,” singing, “It’s been along time since we took a trip/ To the bottom of the canyon in a rocket ship.” But this is just one pillar holding up the song, w...
Artist of the Month is an accolade given to an up-and-coming artist or group who is poised for the big time. For May 2022, we’re celebrating Jordana and her irresistible new album Face The Wall. There was a moment of Tumblr fandom around 2013 where indie was more than just a record label status or music style. It was a cherished aesthetic, a place for young people to collect images and stories of untouchable cool, and, most of all, a place to bask in the stylish iconography of bands like The Strokes, Arctic Monkeys, Vampire Weekend, The Neighbourhood, and The 1975. Now that we’re in 2022 and in the midst of a supposed “comeback” of the indie sleaze aesthetics, those fans have grown up and begun music careers of their own; Jordana, Consequence‘s May Artist of the Month, is one of them. Her ...
My Chemical Romance were finally free to proceed on their much-delayed reunion tour, making their first stop at the Eden Project in Cornwall, UK on Monday night (May 16th). The band unloaded 21 tracks for a breakneck performance that covered every era of the esteemed emo group’s career with some unexpected deep cuts and long-awaited stage debuts. They wasted no time showing off their new tricks, kicking off the show with their comeback single and first released music in eight years, “The Foundations of Decay.” As if the sound of new MCR wasn’t enough to pump up the audience, the band dove straight into the core of their catalog with “Helena.” The extensive setlist was full of hits (“Teenagers,” “Welcome to the Black Parade”) but also included plenty of surprises from the band’s under-sung ...
