Chris Bailey, frontman of the Saints, whose ‘70s single (“I’m) Stranded” was the one of the sparks that lit the punk scene, died Saturday (April 9) at the age of 65. “It is with great pain in our hearts that we have to inform you about the passing of Chris Bailey, singer and songwriter of The Saints, on April the 9th 2022,” reads a message posted by the band. “Chris lived a life of poetry and music and stranded on a Saturday night,” reads the post, referencing Bailey’s famous song. The numbers are in, and Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Unlimited Love is the best-selling rock album of 2022 — and beyond. With 97,500 equivalent album units earned, Chili Peppers’ 12th full-length debuted this week at the top of the Billboard 200 Albums chart. Chris Bailey, the founding singer and songwriter behind the pioneering Australian punk rock band the Saints, has died. The news was revealed in a statement on the Saints’ social media, noting that he died on Saturday, April 9. “Chris lived a life of poetry and music and stranded on a Saturday night,” it reads. Bailey was born in Belfast, and when he was young, his parents emigrated to Brisbane, Australia. He formed the Saints in the early 1970s with Ed Kuepper and Ivor Hay. Following the release of the “(I’m) Stranded” single in 1976, the band’s debut album (I’m) Stranded arrived in 1977.
