Palberta’s Lily Konigsberg and Water From Your Eyes’ Nate Amos have formed a new band called My Idea. Their debut album, CRY MFER, will be released on April 22nd via Hardly Art. My Idea have a bit of a chaotic origin story, and CRY MFER is no different. Konigsberg and Amos first teamed up in fall 2020, when the former sought the latter out to produce her solo record. Soon enough, their relationship became more collaborative — and toxic. “We definitely were like, oh, maybe we’re in love?” Konigsberg recalled in a statement. Recorded right before the Palberta singer-guitarist got sober, the pair — who are now best friends — used CRY MFER to get drunk and challenge each other emotionally and musically. “Thank God we’re not those people [anymore],” Konigsberg said. Graham Nash has joined his longtime friend and bandmate, Neil Young, in pulling his music from Spotify. “Having heard the Covid disinformation spread by Joe Rogan on Spotify, I completely agree with and support my friend Neil Young and I am requesting that my solo recordings be removed from the service,” Nash said in a statement released on Tuesday. “There is a difference between being open to varying viewpoints on a matter and knowingly spreading false information which some 270 medical professionals have derided as not only false but dangerous,” Nash continued. “Likewise, there is a difference between misinformation, in which one is unaware that what is being said is false, versus disinformation which is knowingly false and intended to mislead and sway public opinion.” Advertisement Rela...

There’s more than one way to weigh in on the Spotify dust-up between the streamer and Neil Young. On Monday, Weezer‘s Rivers Cuomo waded into the morass not by pulling his band’s music from the service as Young did, but by launching a Weezer-specific streaming destination of his own called Weezify. Explore See latest videos, charts and news See latest videos, charts and news The move came as a number of artists have joined Young in asking that their music be removed from Spotify in reaction to the COVID-19 misinformation being spread by the service’s biggest podcasting star, Joe Rogan. And while Apple Music, SiriusXM and other streamers have taken advantage of the controversy, Cuomo reacted by offering his fans an invitation. “Tired of Spotify? Come on over to Weezify,” he tweeted about th...
LONDON – Tom Gray, a prominent artist rights advocate and founding member of British rock band Gomez, has been elected chair of The Ivors Academy, the U.K. association for songwriters and composers. Gray has been a key figure in the global push for creators to receive a greater share of streaming royalties. In April 2020, he founded the #BrokenRecord campaign, calling for reform of the music industry and a rebalance of power away from record labels and streaming platforms and towards artists. Gray’s #BrokenRecord campaign ran alongside The Ivors Academy’s #FixStreaming drive, attracting support from stars like Paul McCartney, The Rolling Stones and Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, and compelling U.K. regulators to take a closer look at how the record business operates. That led to a nine-mo...

We have some news to share concerning the future of the band. Please read on for information on upcoming shows, but it seems right to pass on this message from Isaac first. Hello everyone, I have bad news which is that I have been feeling sad and afraid too. And I have tried to make this not true but it is the kind of sad and afraid feeling that makes it hard to play guitar and sing at the same time. Together we have been writing songs and then performing them, which at times has been an incredible doing, but more now everything happens that I am feeling not so great and it means from now I won’t be a member of the group anymore. To be clear: this is completely in spite of six of the greatest people I know, who were and are wonderful in a sparkling way. If you are reading this maybe you ha...

Producer James Hinton has shared a new song as the Range. The track is titled “Bicameral” and it arrives with a surreal animated video. Check it out below. Hinton’s most recent album as the Range was 2016’s Potential, which he followed with a documentary counterpart titled Superimpose. He joined Tourist (aka William Phillips) for the collaboration “Last” in 2020. In a press release, Hinton shared a statement about the origins of “Bicameral”: “Bicameral” represents the beginning of a move into a more ethereal space in my music. I began working on it while on a retreat in Nicaragua in 2016, and finished it in 2020 in Vermont, and so it uniquely captures a lot of the extreme positive and negative memories over that time. In this song the original vocal that I sampled—a song called “The Road” ...
