“Ganja Garden”: Cannabis Culture Comes to Dirtybird Campout

Claude VonStroke is back with the eighth iteration of Dirtybird Campout, and this time he’s blazing new trails—with cannabis. While it’s true that producers of events like Northern Nights and Outside Lands have had cannabis zones for years, next weekend at California’s Modesto Reservoir Campgrounds, Dirtybird Campout may be bridging the two worlds of dance music and cannabis in ways never seen before. This year, the cannabis business stretches roots deeper into the house and music scene with electronic music luminaries like Justin Jay, Mr. Carmack, Nala, VNSSA, Walker & Royce and so many more from October 7-9. Via their flagship festival—where everything that happens is created, curated and hosted by a major house and techno label—the unveiling of Dirtybird’s new...

R. Kelly Ordered To Pay Over $300K To One Of His Victims

HipHopWired Featured Video Source: Chicago Tribune / Getty The L’s just keep piling up for R. Kelly (deservingly so) as a court has just ordered he pay up big time to one of his many victims. The Guardian is reporting that the disgraced R&B singer has been ordered to pay more than $300,000 to one of his victims who accused Kelly of giving her an STD during one of their sexual encounters. U.S. district judge Ann Donnelly made the decision citing that the money would cover the cost of treatment for herpes and psychotherapy that the victim (who’s referred to only by a pseudonym) had to endure due to Kelly’s recklessness. Unfortunately for Kelly, it may not end there. Related Stories Kelly could be on the hook for tens of thousands of dollars more to pay for herpes treatment and counseling...

White Man Who Signed AI Rapper FN Meka Loved Using The N-Word

HipHopWired Featured Video Source: Virtual Humans / Virtual Humans FN Meka was a debacle from the time the digitally-created “rapper” was rolled out to the masses and the controversy that ensued eventually lead to a dissolved record deal with Capitol Records. It has since come forth that much like the AI rapper, the white man who signed FN Meka to his label reportedly had a penchant for using the N-word at will. According to a detailed report from Rolling Stone, Anthony Martini, who works as an executive at Royalty Exchange, was once the frontman for a New Jersey Rap Metal band, E.Town Concrete, and was known for using the racially-charged slur during tracks and performances. Across the band’s first two albums, the N-word was used by Martini, who went by the names Ant-Money and Ignant Ass ...

Kyrie Irving Says He Lost Millions Over COVID-19 Vaccine Refusal

HipHopWired Featured Video Source: Newsday LLC / Getty Kyrie Irving says that his refusal to get the COVID-19 vaccine cost him a multiyear contract extension worth millions although he’s still raking in a little of a third of what he could’ve earned this season alone. The star Brooklyn Nets guard doubled down on his stance to not get the jab and positioned himself as the “voice of the voiceless.” Kyrie Irving spoke to the press earlier this week for a Brooklyn Nets media day event this past Monday (Sept. 26) and spoke candidly on how his decision to remain unvaccinated put him at odds with the team, his sponsors, and the NBA at large according to a report from Deadline. “I gave up 4 years, $100-something million deciding to be unvaccinated,” Irving said at the press event. “That was the de...

Mining Metal: An Abstract Illusion, Barn, Floating, Lunar Spells, Mamaleek, Miscreance, Toadeater, and Toughness

As the first summer this decade that felt like a true summer winds down, metalheads rejoice as the seasons turn in our favor. We trade in our black cutoff death metal shirts for black long-sleeved death metal shirts, battle jackets give way to actual jackets (denim and patch-filled, of course), cut-off cargos transform into jeans while combat boots…actually, who knows what metalheads wear to shows these days, though Dave Mustaine is hopefully still kicking about in his Nike Air Tech Challenge IIs. The point is, temperatures will start dropping throughout most of the world soon, and inside those cold weather months is peak metal mise-en-scene. The black metal that champions either Scandanavian pastures or American fauna usually comes with a wintery tone, though that’s not to say that fall d...

Future Interrupts Jimmy Kimmel Live! with a “Love You Better” Dream Sequence: Watch

Life is different when you’re living in the Future, as the Atlanta MC demonstrated with a show-stopping performance — literally — of “Love You Better” on Jimmy Kimmel Live! Kimmel introduced the musical guest as if he were sitting down for an interview. After Future took a spot on the couch, the host asked, “So how is the Future? Relatively speaking.” “Man, I be drifting off sometimes,” Future replied, as music began to swell and the lighting went woozy. The cameras shifted to show a young woman calling out, “Future!” as she entered his dressing room. She found a bouquet of flowers, a bucket of ice, and a note: “I NEVER LIKED U.” Advertisement Related Video That’s a reference to Future’s new album, I Never Liked You, and as she sat on the couch to process this missive, the camera...

Pusha T has, once again, shared a diss track aimed at a sandwich. For a new campaign with fast-food chain Arby’s, Pusha T has recorded a track mocking the McDonald’s McRib and promoting Arby’s Real Country Style Rib Sandwich. The rapper also collaborated with Arby’s on a limited-edition line of merchandise inspired by the sandwich, including bolo ties, trucker hats, and shirts. Check out the music video, starring bull riding champion Ezekial “Blue” Mitchell, below. Pusha T previously recorded a track for an Arby’s ad dissing the McDonald’s Filet-o-Fish sandwich, rapping “If you know me and you know me well/Our fish is gonna tip that scale.” And though his claim has been disputed, he maintains he wrote McDonald’s “I’m Lovin’ It” jingle for a flat fee.
