10 Post-2000 Indie Albums You Forgot You Kinda Dig

This article originally ran in 2014 and has been updated. For more ’00s nostalgia, check out our Whatever Happened To…? series. In 2001, after years of Korn and Britney tyranny, it suddenly became cool to make guitar music again. If you were in a band, you had your choice of two sounds: garage rock and dance-punk. That may be oversimplifying things a bit, but in the wake of the Strokes, the White Stripes, Interpol, and Franz Ferdinand, an awful lot of groups jumped on one of those bandwagons. A lot of them wore conductor hats, and most were pretty terrible. But some were actually decent, and their CDs — as in compact discs, as in you bought ’em at Best Buy for $9.99 — were the soundtrack to an era everyone seems to have forgotten. It’s time we dig out the following 10 albums and make ‘00s ...

Santigold Dares You to “Shake” on New Single: Stream

Santigold is closing in on the release of her comeback album Spirituals. Ahead of its September 9th release, the indie veteran has shared another preview of what’s to come today with the single “Shake,” produced by SBTRKT. At just under two minutes, “Shake” doesn’t let its brevity prevent it from packing a punch. SBTRKT bolsters the song with a puttering, slightly off-kilter beat that feels a little reminiscent of Radiohead’s “Kid A,” as Santigold sings a message of perseverence over an ascending synth loop: “I won’t buckle under pressure/ Imma be alright/ I will never follow/ If I know the way/ But if you got my back/ I got you, set your worry free.” “‘Shake’ is one of those songs…that basically write themselves, and all you have to do as the artist is be open enough to reach out and...

In a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Martin said he doesn’t plan on looking for other work after the Hulu series is over. Prior to Only Murders, Martin made a comeback to standup comedy with his future co-star on the show, Martin Short, but had otherwise largely stepped away from his acting career. “We were very happy just doing the live show,” Martin told THR. “There may be a natural end to that — somebody gets sick, somebody just wears out — but I wouldn’t do it without Marty. When this television show is done, I’m not going to seek others. I’m...
