The Valve Steam Deck Receives an Official Launch Date

Originally set to release at the end of 2021, the Valve Steam Deck has now received an official release date. In a blog post, Valve shared that the initial batch will be offered to reservation holders February 25 for 72 hours, with shipping set for February 28. Then units will be open up to those in the reservation queue, the gaming company has plans to offer more releases of the powerful handheld gaming PC on a weekly basis.

The release of the Valve Steam Deck saw a two-month delay due to shortages that have plagued many industries in recent months. “We’re sorry about this — we did our best to work around the global supply chain issues,” said Valve. “Components aren’t reaching our manufacturing facilities in time for us to meet our initial launch dates.”

Starting at $399 USD, the Valve Steam Deck features a 64GB of eMMC internal storage base and a carrying case, with 256GB ($529 USD) and 512GB ($649 USD) of NVMe storage options. The gaming device is outfitted with a custom chipset with a 2.4GHz processor, a GPU with eight RDNA 2 computer units and 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM.
