The Cure’s classic song “Boys Don’t Cry” has become the band’s first tune to join “Billions Club” on Spotify for surpassing 1 billion streams. Along with the achievement, the band has announced a limited-edition reissue of the single on vinyl, CD, and digital platforms.
“Boys Don’t Cry” was originally released as a stand-alone single in 1979, and then as the title track to the 1980 compilation album Boys Don’t Cry, which was essentially the US release of The Cure’s 1979 debut album, Three Imaginary Boys. It was remixed and re-released as the single “Boys Don’t Cry (New Voice – New Mix)” in 1986, and reached a wider audience.
That 1986 mix was never released digitally, but will now hit digital service providers on January 30th, along with being reissued on 12″ vinyl, 7″ vinyl, and CD. The 12″ vinyl (out April 21st) and CD (out January 30th) will contain two remastered mixes of “Boys Don’t Cry,” as well as the B-sides “Plastic Passion,” “Pillbox Tales,” and “Do the Hansa.”

The Cure will soon have another song in the “Billions Club,” as “Friday, I’m in Love” is currently sitting at roughly 970 million streams. In the meantime, the band will be on tour throughout the UK and Europe this summer, playing festival dates and headlining shows, with tickets available here.
