Disney and Pixar’s Toy Story 5 has officially crossed $1 billion USD at the global box office, reaching $1.022 billion USD to become the highest-grossing film of the year. The animated feature has generated $448 million USD domestically and $573 million USD internationally.
Directed by Pixar veteran Andrew Stanton, the fifth installment follows Woody (Tom Hanks), Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), and Jessie (Joan Cusack) as their owner Bonnie becomes addicted to a new kiddie smart tablet called Lilypad. Opening in mid-June with a $160 million USD debut, the film maintained steady theatrical momentum throughout the summer season, supported by strong word-of-mouth and an original soundtrack contribution from Taylor Swift titled “I Knew It, I Knew You.”
The milestone marks the third entry in the franchise to surpass $1 billion USD, positioning Toy Story 5 to overtake Toy Story 4 ($1.07 billion USD) as the highest-earning installment in the series. It joins The Super Mario Galaxy Movie and Michael as the third release to clear $1 billion USD globally this year.
