Almost six months after the first teaser video was revealed, the official trailer for the live-action film Look Back has finally been unveiled.
The film follows the evolving relationship between Ayumu Fujino, an outgoing and fiercely confident young artist, and her reclusive, socially anxious classmate Kyomoto. Shot with naturalistic 35mm visuals, the trailer offers a glimpse into a poignant coming‑of‑age story where creative rivalry, grief, and the search for meaning in art intersect with the lives of its two protagonists.
Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Hirokazu Kore‑eda, the project builds on the manga’s reputation for emotional depth and marks the first live‑action adaptation of a work by Chainsaw Man creator Tatsuki Fujimoto, following the success of the 2024 anime film. The cast reunites actresses Natsuki Deguchi and Aju Makita, who previously starred together in Kore‑eda’s Netflix series The Makanai: Cooking for the Maiko House, now portraying Fujino and Kyomoto. The film is scheduled for release in Japan on September 11, 2026, with international distribution handled by GKIDS, though overseas dates have yet to be announced.
