Michael Stipe bantered with his good friend Stephen Colbert about a hypothetical R.E.M. biopic during his Late Show appearance on Thursday night, April 23rd.
After Colbert said, “It’s got to be David Cross,” for a bearded Stipe, the two wondered aloud about who could play a younger version of the musician. “Maybe Billie Eilish could do it,” Stipe suggested. “She’d be good,” Colbert agreed. “You guys got similar blue eyes there.”
When asked whether they had ever met, Stipe said Eilish had once held a door for him at a restaurant in Manhattan. “She’s incredibly polite and sweet, but I didn’t know who she was until she was down the street.”
