Alex G Shares Video for New Song “Cross the Sea”

Alex G has shared a video for his new song “Cross the Sea,” the latest single from his forthcoming LP God Save the Animals. Check out the video—directed by the artist Elliot Bech—below. Alex G is set to head to Europe for a handful of dates in August before settling in for a U.S. tour in October and November. The Linda Lindas started out as a cover band, and we’ve played more songs by the Go-Go’s than anyone else. And even after we started to write our own songs, we never stopped playing “Tonite.” We love the idea of us going out and owning our town, and “Tonite” is as fun to play as it is empowering—especially the part where we all sing together. “We rule the streets tonite until the morning light” and so should our fans. Because the cover is such a hit at shows, we decided to record a studio version to pay tribute to the greatest all-female rock band of all time, a crucial part of the L.A. punk scene, and our heroes.

Sadie Dupuis Announces New Poetry Book Cry Perfume

Sadie Dupuis, of both Sad13 and Speedy Ortiz, has a new collection of poetry on the way. It’s titled Cry Perfume and it arrives on October 4 via Black Ocean. Her second book of poetry, following 2018’s Mouthguard, is comprised of poems she wrote on the road across four years of touring. “I’d lost friends to overdose, and felt anger at the ways in which live music largely ignores the needs of musicians and music fans who use drugs or who face addiction—and how in many ways, artists are encouraged toward untenable living,” Dupuis said in a statement. “The chronic underpayment of musicians, the inseparability of venues and alcohol sales, and the arts’ increasing absorption into algorithmically-motivated tech felt like interwoven concerns.” Dupuis issued her second album as Sad13, Haunted Pain...

Police Officer Who Saved Lil Wayne’s Life After Suicide Attempt Dead at 65

Robert Hoobler, the former New Orleans police officer who helped save Lil Wayne’s life in 1994, has died at 65 years old. According to local Fox affiliate WVUE, Hoobler was found dead at his home in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana on Friday, July 22nd. No cause of death was revealed, but his grandson Daniel Nelson told NOLA.com that Hoobler had been dealing with health issues after a car accident and that both of his legs had been amputated due to complications from diabetes. At the age of 12, Lil Wayne (born Dwayne Michael Carter Jr.) shot himself in the chest with a 9mm pistol in what he later revealed to be a suicide attempt on November 11th, 1994. Hanoi Rocks guitarist Andy McCoy says he’s never received an apology from Mötley Crüe singer Vince Neil, whose infamous 1984 car crash resulted in the death of the band’s drummer, Nicholas “Razzle” Dingley. Neil was driving his car when he and Dingley went on a liquor run in Redondo Beach, California, in December 1984. On the way back, the Mötley Crüe vocalist crashed into another vehicle, killing Dingley and leaving both occupants of the other car with brain damage.
