Name Dan Reynolds Best known for I’d like to be best known for being the dad to four really rad kids. I have four wonderful children that I love. I have a nine-year-old girl who has been all around the world with me, right at the beginning of the onslaught of Imagine Dragons, and has been a road warrior in a tour bus. (In the beginning, it was just a van, then the tour bus.) Then I have twin four-year-old girls, and I have a two-year-old little boy who’s about to turn three. I think that’s my number one priority, just to be a good dad. Current city Las Vegas, born and raised third generation, which is pretty rare. Most people are transplants. Death Cab for Cutie is out with their new single, “Foxglove Through the Clearcut,” from the forthcoming album, Asphalt Meadows. The track is accompanied by a lyric video from frequent Death Cab collaborator Juliet Bryant, which heightens the track’s moving spoken-word components and meditative instrumentation. [embedded content][embedded content] “‘Foxglove’ is by far the most personal song on the record,” lead vocalist and guitarist Ben Gibbard said in a statement. “While I was writing it, I thought I was merely the narrator. But the longer I sat with it, I realized I was both the protagonist AND the narrator.” The band previously released “Here to Forever” and “Roman Candles” from the upcoming album. “We had to create our own scene because there wasn’t one in Buffalo at the time that was that welcoming…” Goo Goo Dolls frontman John Rzeznik tells me, of the early days, long before they became a household name. Goo Goo Dolls began as an unpretentious, late-80s punk band who had a hard time fitting in with the hair-metal music scene that was thriving in Buffalo at the time. Their scene was built through raw DIY work ethic: printing posters, calling college radio stations, renting spaces for shows – shows that attracted misfits and outsiders of similar ilk, all searching for a less-judgmental sanctuary. “We played original music…alternative rock, punk rock, whatever you want to call it,” Rzeznik says, from a stop in Salt Lake City, where they will be playing that night. “There weren’t a lo...
Louis Cato will replace Jon Batiste as the bandleader on CBS’ The Late Show with Stephen Colbert when the show begins its eighth season on Sept. 6. Colbert announced the change on last night’s episode of the show, noting that Cato has already filled this summer for Batiste, who is departing “to pursue personal and professional interests.” “Louis has done a great job this summer, and he is very humble, so he won’t say this. But I will. He’s a musical genius,” Colbert told the audience. “He can play basically every instrument over there. Give him an afternoon, he’ll learn how to play Mozart on a shoehorn.” Batiste’s decision to leave Colbert comes after he won the best original score Oscar last year for his work on the Disney/Pixar film Soul and took home five Grammys earlier this year, incl...
Epic Games appears to have granted fans’ wishes to bring Dragon Ball Z characters to Fortnite. The crossover has long been requested by fans for some time now and recent leaks have sent fans to wonder if the characters will be coming to battle royale games. Epic Games and Fortnite have confirmed the rumors on Twitter with a simple image of the Dragon Shenron with a caption, “Speak. Name your wish…8.16.2022.” The image and the Tweet both reference the titular Dragon Balls and announce that the crossover will hit the game starting next week. No additional details have been revealed thus far, however, it can be expected that similar to previous crossovers, Fortnite gamers might get a chance to include Shenron and can expect bundles as well as character items and skins in the Dragon Ball theme...
Activision has now removed the samoyed skin from Call of Duty: Warzone following allegations of plagiarism. The skin was first made available under the Floof Fury pack for in-game operator Kim Tae Young for the game’s fourth season, but Chinese artist Sail Lin quickly noticed the similarities with a design they created two years ago. Since the revelations, Activision received a large amount of backlash from the gaming community and has now issued a statement of apology on top of pulling the skin from the game. “We have the utmost respect for creativity and content creation,” said Activision. “We love the Loyal Samoyed, but regrettably we erred in our process and have removed this imagery from the game. We apologize for the misstep.” As Polygon points out, it’s not the first time ...
San Francisco, 1994 A group of dykes, feminists, queer punks, and onlookers crowded an unassuming martini bar as Lynn Breedlove and a few friends used a chainsaw, blood, and parts of a pig’s body from a Mission District butcher shop to protest sexual assault, police, and art-bro bullshit. “It was gnarly,” Breedlove remembers, noting that there was no warning for the audience. The performance was in direct response to the release of a zine called Answer Me, whose final controversial issue, The Rape Issue, gained popularity with shock-obsessed readers while deeply angering feminists. “We didn’t know what the fuck, but we knew we were pissed.” Little did Breedlove know that this night of performance would birth a queer punk poetry movement that would tour the country, and provide a platform fo...
