‘Heroes of Newerth’ Is Officially Shutting Down Next Summer

After running for more than a decade, Heroes of Newerth is finally shutting down.

Originally launched back in 2010, the DOTA-derived MOBA gained immense popularity following a shift to a free-to-play model in July that year, at one point peaking at 150,000 concurrent players during May of 2013. Unfortunately, as the years went by, more and more fans of the genre shifted over to DOTA 2 or League of Legends, and has left HoN to slowly wither away after 12 years.

Despite the unfortunate fate of the game, however, the Frostburn Studios team remains positive: “Even though the journey of HoN or Heroes of Newerth has come to an end, we believe that all the valuable memories of our players through all these years will never fade away,” they said. “It’s all those little moments with you that I love the most. Enjoy the last moments of HoN together!”

To let the game go out with a bang, Frostburn Studios is also putting into place a series of permanent events that’ll last until the servers finally shut down. While Gold Coins are no longer purchasable, players will have access to Silver Coin multipliers, increased Plinko Drop rates, and the ability to purchase various items that used to be premium with in-game currency.

Heroes of Newerth will fully shut down by June 20, 2022.

Elsewhere in gaming, Ubisoft is releasing a crossover event for Assassin’s Creed Odyssey and Valhalla.
