Netflix has unveiled the official trailer for Last Samurai Standing, its upcoming Japan-set battle royale series based on Naoki Prize-winning author Imamura Shogo’s novel Ikusagami.

Directed by Michihito Fujii, the story is set in Kyoto, where 292 warriors gather at Tenryuji Temple. Each is given a wooden tag and plunged into a brutal contest. To win a massive cash prize, they must steal their rivals’ tags and reach Tokyo. The trailer opens with the leading character, Shujiro Saga (played by Junichi Okada), lured by the promise of a considerable cash prize, which he intends to use to help his sick wife and child. As the game unfolds, warriors employ diverse tactics: some launch arrows, others dart daggers or wield massive blades, while some rely on cunning strategies.

A new character, Gentosai Okabe, portrayed by Hiroshi Abe, is also introduced in the trailer. With his tall, enigmatic appearance and long white hair, Okabe is feared as a “monster” by other participants, further disrupting the game’s balance.

Showcasing a fast-paced, intense survival set in the Meiji era, the Last Samurai Standing is set to premiere on November 13 with 6 episodes exclusively on Netflix.
